Bio

Ladyboys were formed (one drunken night in June 2007 in the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds) by four friends who should have known better. They were joined shortly after by a fifth friend who couldn't possibly have known any better. So it goes. The idea was to make a stand against the stereotypical idea of the Yorkshireman's allergy to ponciness. What's wrong with having an artistic, feminine side, after all? Nothing, my friend, nothing at all. It has been said, after all, that Ladyboys' singer, Damian, is a lesbian in a man's body. His lyrics include vignettes about gender transformation, they describe personal crises and illness, demonize drug-fuelled City brats, yet celebrate the much maligned 'hoody' generation. All cheery stuff you may think; but all done with Northern humour and wit. The band are, musically, a mixture of rainy Northern melodies and stern grooves set to a strict ethos of pop songwriting; after all, a good song should appeal to the head, the heart and the hips simultaneously. Don't be scared: touch yourself...and, indeed, each other. In the words of Sylvia Plath: 'The claw of the Magnolia, drunk on its own scents, asks nothing of life.'

Influences Include; Harland Miller, In The Night Garden, Guy Debord, Shane Meadows, Adidas Indoor Super, Simon Armitage, Bobby Davison, The Tage, Corvus Corone, Billy Elliott, Rainy Northern Melodies, Tony Harrison, Kirsty MacColl, Angela Carter, a bit of Folk, tea made in warmed-up teapots (no other way really, is there?), Alan Bennett
